As you’re preparing for the holidays and thinking through the things or experiences you want to gift to others in your life, don’t forget to treat yourself to something nice as well!

It’s been the most difficult year for many of the teachers I’ve talked to and you deserve to get something nice for yourself!

Here are 3 things to consider:

FOR THE COFFEE-LOVING TEACHER:

Stanley tumbler

I got my first Stanley tumbler last year during remote teaching.

I typically drink two cups of coffee a day; one around 7am and another about 10:30am. Normally I make my coffee with a french press or Chemex which can take at least 7 minutes. I usually didn’t have time to make that second mid-morning cup.

But if I made two cups early in the morning, the second would be cold by the time 10:30am came around.

The Stanley tumbler came to the rescue.

I made two cups in the morning, drank one right away, and put the rest in the tumbler. The coffee stayed super hot in there even HOURS later. I kept doing this even when I returned to campus, as I liked my homemade coffee more than the lounge coffee.

A little tip: rinse the tumbler out with really hot tap water before pouring the coffee in there. It’ll stay hot even longer.

FOR THE VIDEO-LESSON TEACHER:

One by Wacom pen tablet

I started making video lessons for my students back in 2013 and it only took about 3 seconds to realize that writing anything out on a digital whiteboard using my mouse or trackpad was going to look like absolute trash.

So I got a pen tablet.

You can plug a pen tablet into your computer and then as you write on the tablet, it shows up as writing on your computer screen.

You don’t have to be a math teacher to benefit from a pen tablet.

Being able to circle, underline, or draw out anything on your computer screen that you would normally write on a sheet of paper or whiteboard is super helpful for any content area.

Wacom is the sponsor of this post and I’ve been using Wacom tablets since before they were ever sponsoring any videos we were creating. They are THE company when it comes to pen tablets.

If you’re on a budget, their most affordable tablet is the One by Wacom, coming out to $60.

If you’ve used a pen tablet before but have found them a little awkward and are wanting to splurge a little bit, they also have a tablet called the Wacom One, where you see the computer screen ON the tablet, which makes it easier to work with. It comes out to about $350.

FOR THE FUN-TIE / FUN-SOCKS TEACHER:

A fun tie or pair of fun socks 🙂

I almost always wore a tie when I taught.

It helped me to feel more professional and show up as my best self for the kids. And I enjoyed having fun with my tie collection. A fan-favorite was my drum-playing reindeer tie that I’d wear on the last day of the fall semester.

And as far as socks…we had the bacon-and-eggs socks, the jogging-owl socks, the Super Mario Shells socks, and of course the dancing-robot socks.

If you go to Amazon and search ‘teacher ties‘ or ‘fun socks‘ you’ll be presented with quite a collection and I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like. 🙂
